What is workplace wellness?

Forbes magazine describes workplace wellness as a place where people “look forward to coming to work instead of counting down the minutes to freedom”. A happy place.

Is your business a happy place?

Do you feel that your staff look forward to coming to work, or do you suspect they look forward to taking days off?

If you have answered ‘No’ or ‘Maybe’ to the above, it may be time to review your situation and give serious consideration to workplace wellness.

We spend more of our waking time at work than at any other activity or place; so, doesn’t it make sense to create a safe and happy work environment? It is as important as creating a safe and happy home environment where everyone supports each other.

Australians take more than 20 million sick days a year due to stress. This costs the economy a whopping $14.8 billion.

Neuroscience and epigenetics are two emerging sciences that understand that workplace environment has a huge role in our health. Stress in the workplace can have a direct impact on cells within our bodies; it can actually cause changes in cellular structure.

Increasing numbers of us need to take time off work for our sanity; this could be because we are stressed, we are unhappy, we feel undervalued, pressured, bullied or overwhelmed.

Most of us have experienced stress at some point in our lives. For many of us, this is short-term stress which can be brought about by a host of issues; however, the number of people suffering chronic stress is on the increase. Chronic stress penetrates every corner of our being; it is debilitating.

Stress is quite often work related. My experience shows that stress can be broken down into equal thirds: personal, financial and work related. Financial stress often relates back to work, so it can almost be categorized as being in that sector.

Many companies spend vast sums on creating a physical environment that supports workplace wellness through fresh air, living plants and colour. This is great news and certainly supports mental health and well-being.

One area that is not well done in the work environment is supporting workplace wellness by diminishing stress.

Can stress be avoided?

The simple answer is, there is no simple answer. An individual is just that—an individual. Stress, however, can be managed by supporting those who need help. An open work environment, where staff members know that they won’t be persecuted for putting their hands up and asking for help, is the first step.

We know that businesses perform better if staff are happy, healthy and motivated.

Many companies take the health of their employees seriously and have implemented workplace wellness strategies to help and support their staff. This should be applauded.

It is interesting to note that many companies spend huge sums—sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars—on personality tests to categorize staff. Unfortunately, these tests do not take into consideration the staff member’s field of experience, culture or beliefs. The reality is that all individuals are unique. By nature, people want to fit in to be happy and healthy.

Can Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) and hypnotherapy help towards achieving workplace wellness? Yes! How?

Utilizing the best of hypnotherapy, neurolinguistic programming, neuroscience and neuroplasticity, RTT could be a tool to assist your staff perform to the best of their abilities by feeling confident, strong, happy and healthy.

There are many ways in which these modalities help, including:

  • supporting staff members to be the best they can be;
  • replacing stress, anxiety and distress by discovering the root cause of their emotional turmoil and rewiring new beneficial beliefs into their conscious and unconscious minds;
  • controlling and removing anger through anger management.

Where bullying has been identified, and the perpetrator is a key staff member or in a management role, RTT can assist the staff member to understand how, why, where and when this personality trait began.
