The answer is YES!
It is estimated that more than 200,000 people living in Queensland alone are suffering an eating disorder (source Eating Disorders Queensland). It is a pandemic; there is no other word that can adequately describe it. This number has been increasing steadily for quite some time.
Certainly, in the past 12 years I have noticed a change in both gender and demographics. I am now seeing a lot more men in my practice, who now have a mind-set of “the perfect body” these men are limiting their calories, watching what they eat and generally becoming very body conscious and have adopted habits once associated with women. Dieting, restricting their carbohydrates, limiting joy items like chocolates and sweets and weighing themselves daily. Many men today, especially younger men are beginning to suffer eating disorders which was literally unheard of a decade ago.
Social media certainly has had an impact -with many people “proudly” showing off their emaciated bodies and others commenting on how good they look – this is most concerning, as younger women look up to socialites the majority of whom are slim/skinny.
having a perfect body” today is vastly different to what was deemed to be a perfect body 20 to 50 years ago.
It is stated that eating disorders have increased by 21% in the past 10 years!
On speaking with the Royal Brisbane Hospital there is a dedicated section for those suffering from eating disorders – it is part of the Mental ward, because of course it is a mental health issue. as the individual has formed a limiting belief that they are Fat!!
People die from this disease. If you do suspect that someone you know is suffering, reach out to a professional and ask their advice. Or give me a call, I may be able to help you as I have had success with people suffering this disorder.
I MAY BE ABLE TO HELP YOU OR THE PERSON YOU KNOW SUFFERING THIS DISEASE, however, I can only help if the individual want to be helped.
When working with individuals I use both RTT and Hypnosis as it is one of the few ways that the unconscious mind can be accessed; the unconscious mind is the keeper of all emotions and memories- so by accessing the unconscious mind (which is the keeper of all memories) we can collapse synapses (memory strands) and re-wire new positive beliefs.

“I am so grateful to have met Spiri, she has changed my perspective on life and myself so drastically that I cannot thank her enough. I am 18 and have struggled with self-esteem issues, clinically diagnosed body-dysmorphia, depression, and anxiety. This year was too much for me and my parents organised an appointment with Spiri, and thank god. Since seeing her I can honestly say I am the happiest I’ve ever been. I am less fixated on my appearance, I can enjoy myself freely and have fun, all of which were difficult to do in the past. So thank you so much Spiri”
If you or someone you know need help or support on an eating disorder please call me for a no obligation , no cost discussion.
CASE STUDY – Amber.
One of my younger women whose Father brought her to me, while she was in a Shopping Centre some years back shopping with her Mother, there were a group of younger men immediately behind her, who were discussing a woman’s weight – mentioning that she could be a sumo wrestler – my young client took this as them discussing her without looking around and thus began her journey of starvation which lead to her being hospitalized multiple times before hypnosis – now 6 years free of this disorder this young lady has just finished her degree in psychology so that she too can help others with an eating disorder.
